Meet the Met's Best
These are the top looks from the Met Gala last night. The theme was punk and each fashionista made it their own with feathers, spikes, studs, cut-outs, patterns, hair accessories, and amazing smokey eye make-up.

My overall favorite? Although it was really hard to decide, Jennifer Lawrence hit it out of the park with her black birdcage veil. I mean, what do you expect a bride-to-be to do when faced with wedding accessories? How about a guy's opinion? Dan's favorite was Blake Lively, even without knowing that her dress was silk organza and feathers and she rocked the color of the moment - mint. What was your favorite?

Ode to Miroslava - How to (look like you) Wear Couture
Miroslava Duma is former Harper's Bazaar (Russia) editor and a current fashion icon. If you are a street style photographer and she saunters by you (in all her 5' of glory), you get that picture! No one rocks pattern mixing & matching, color blocking, and challenging common perceptions of proportions for a small frame. But, even if you are pear shaped or tall and lean, we can all take a cue from this "it girl."
The "top 10" lessons to learn from Miroslava Duma:
1. Always wear a statement necklace.
2. Wear your platform sandals with opaque tights when the temperatures drop.
3. White pumps are on trend, especially before & after Labor Day.
4. Pant suits make a statement outside the 9-5.
5. Buttoned up collars are a great layering piece.
6. Mid calf skirts are a flattering length for petites.
7. Similarly, all over abstract prints are not overwhelming for petites.
8. Cleavage is overrated.
9. Clutches are not just for evening.
10. Hats (or headpieces) are the most chic of accessories.

Ode to Taylor Tomasi Hill - Interpreting High Fashion
With fashion weeks worldwide upon us, the quality of street style has increased exponentially. Especially with the presence of this fiery red head - Taylor Tomasi Hill, the artistic director for Moda Operandi and previous style and accessories director of Marie Claire. Without fashion houses running to dress you, it's tough to say that you can achieve all of her looks or be photographed by Tommy Tom or Bill Cunningham. However, a few key items, paired together with her signature flair will ensure that you can steal the spotlight and gain some ooh's and aah's from your co-workers, boyfriends, girlfriends, or passersby.

The "top 10" lessons to be learned from TTH:
1. Wear tones of neutrals (beige with camel or gray with slate) with a pop of bright color
2. Pair navy with black
3. Always. Always wear a scarf.
4. Thigh high boots add edge to slouchy separates and layers
5. Tuck in just the front of your sweater or blouse and wear your coat on just your shoulders
6. Adopt a "below the knee" rule for skirts
7. Invest in a leather pencil skirt
8. Put a collar under your sweater to add some prim & proper
9. Show some skin with caged heels
10. One pattern can be enough.
TTH not your fave? What about Jenna Lyons, Serena van der Woodsen, or Gwen Stefani?

Ode to Gwen Stefani - How to Amp up your Street Style
After buying a pair of pumped up Nike kicks with neon laces, I realized that my "street style" needed some cred. I can do work appropriate glam with the best of 'em, but I've always struggled with the more casual ensembles. Hence, I'm usually (seemingly) overdressed and while I love heels and pencil skirts, I like the comfort of hoodies and boyfriend jeans, just as much as the average college kid. So, what does a 28 (almost 29 year old) woman add to her closet to look good (not slouchy) with a pair of Chucks, Nikes, wellies, or riding boots for the weekend in colder temps? Let's take a cue from Ms. L.A.M.B herself - Gwen Stefani.

| A striped, slouchy cardigan Boyfriend jeans, cuffed (of course) Plaid cabby hat Cat-eye sunglasses |
![]() |
| Aztec print sweater Motorcycle jacket Gray zip-up hoodie Neutral printed scarf Perforated leather belt |
![]() |
| Wool sweater coat Black leggings Off the shoulder rocker tee Bright cross-body bag |
![]() |
| Skinny (slightly) tattered jeans Bright silk scarf Baggy chinos Aviators |
![]() |
| Animal print oversize sweater Sweatshirt tunic Plaid blazer Bright lipstick |
Now all you need is a rocker hubby, two adorable kiddos, and maybe those amazing abs and platinum blonde hair, to get as many "oohs and aahs" that this singer/designer receives!

Ode to Jenna Lyons - The Queen of High/Low
To say that Jenna Lyons, the creative director of J.Crew, is an inspiration, a girl crush, or a trendsetter, feels too...too...minimal to express her impact on the fashion world, which is ironic, considering that she does minimalism so well. Almost as well as she does high and low, such as sequins and camouflage, fur and jersey, and even menswear or mixing prints. I mean, really, what am I going on about, these pictures speak for themselves and demonstrate her genius, as does this article.
So, what do you need to epitomize Jenna-chic this fall?
I've narrowed it down to a few basics.

Ode to Serena - How to Add Edge
The jackets! The dresses! The baubles! The shooooes! I have to admit, I'm a Gossip Girl fan. The love triangles are incestuous, the people are beautiful, and the fashion...oh lordy, the fashion. I have to say that every time Serena Van Der Woodsen comes on screen, her outfits take my breath away. Of course, she is often wearing couture dresses that are not so practical, however beautiful they may be. Blake Lively's character is put into outfits that are so incredibly eclectic. It's hard to give the style a name...boho chic is way too casual, trendy doesn't do it justice, and rockstar hip doesn't allow for the classically tailored menswear separates she so effortlessly pulls off. Seems I'm speechless, so I will let some examples speak for themselves.
Am I right, or am I right?! There is no way to describe it except inspired. One thing is for sure though, there are some trends that she holds tight to: layering. From boots, short hemlines, long necklaces, big purses, skinny jeans, vests, and fitted jackets, it all works. There is also an ingenious mix of muted colors, patterns, and brights, which makes one go "Huh, I never thought of that!" So, Serena Van Der Woodsen, thank you for making me realize that proportions can be mixed; that gray, beige, peach, and brown go together; that sequins and lace can be worn in the daytime...and even at the same time; and most importantly, that just because you're visiting Brooklyn, doesn't mean you have to dress like you're not on the Upper East Side!
