Now that I'm officially done and can look back and reflect, I would just like to say that I am WELL AWARE that i chose some very BORING pieces. A plain grey tee? TWO black cardigans? What was I thinking? One of them was never even worn.... I did do pretty well on not having similar items create similar outfits... but if I were to do it again (and I'm sure I will come the colder months!) I will definitely take more time in selecting pieces that are a little more interesting.

I was also pretty sad when I realized I only included two skirts and not a single dress, especially considering my childhood love of all things girly has recently been rekindled.
Ah well, live and learn.

Anyways, in my daily blog stalking I happened about Already Pretty's post on Wardrobe Cycling and decided that I too should make a list of under utilized items and create outfits based around those. My closet is over stuffed, so I definitely don't need to shop, just rediscover lovers-past. Not only is it a way to cure my late night boredom, but the thought of making a list makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Clearly my posting skills sucked for some time considering I've been doing photo dumps for the last couple of posts! I'll eventually get better at this whole blogging routine... we hope!

Anyhoo, the bf has gotten a butt-load of gift cards from his new job to make his wardrobe more "business-y". Am I jealous? Very much so, yes. but I have gotten to go shopping three times this week, (which he usually complains to me about), and have gotten to pick out some bad-ass ties and dress shoes. AND on these multiple excursions I finally found a pair of trousers (which I've been coveting for MONTHS!) that are super flattering and were an amazing price, ($40 marked down from $130!). Score? I think so.
So as you could probably guess, I can't wait to debut them on here... and patience is not one of my strong suits. But until then.....

I know these shoes weren't part of my 30 for 30, but I never did end up wearing #28 (the gladiators. I attempted to wear them once and even MORE beading fell off of them. I think it's time for them to be retired for good. These colorful beauties are super comfortable and cost me a whole $30. I love Winners. When you actually have time to sift through things and spend a little time looking, it's a gold mine. They were more than half off the Winner's price, which is already a severe discount from what they would normally cost. Does anyone else feel incredibly guilty when they pay full price for things? I always feel as if I should be spending the money on something more responsible.

Playing catch up with a few outfits...

On another note, the weekend was fabulous! Celebrated my cousin Shannel's 19th birthday with dinner and drinks at Foundation in the market, and then headed to Sotto. Not my scene, but fun none the less. Ever seen Jersey Shore? I think those kids would love it there. haha. Even my aunt came along... and damn does she ever have some dance moves!

Yesterday we headed to my dad's for a BBQ. It rained like mad so we were sequesterned to the house, but it was still a good time, and I got to catch up with my step-mum's sister Mary who I haven't seen in years!

Sixteen

I'm pretty pumped that its already Wednesday! The weeks go by so much faster when you're doing work that is actually relatively enjoyable!
Last night we went for Thai food and it was AMAZING! The Green Papaya in Ottawa in case any of you were in the area. I wish I could tell you what I ordered, but I have no idea what it was called, only that it was so spicy that my lips tingled for hours afterwards!

Worn last weekend... I can't believe some people are already through the challenge! I'm such a slacker apparently! My next few posts will show multiple outfits I'm sure... I miss my other clothes! And I've been getting a lot of wear out of only a few of the pieces. Just goes to show you how much thought should really go into selecting the capsule. I didn't select nearly enough fun pieces.

Congrats to everyone who has completed it! I've adored watching what you've all put together!

1-15 Summary

So apparently I have absolutely no photoshop skills. I swear when I was editing this the pictures were in focus... Any tips?

Anyways, looking back I can see I haven't gotten nearly enough wear out of some of those pieces, and I can already see new combinations, so stay tuned!

Half way There!

I know, I'm behind! But what can I say? I'm a slacker! Haha, oh well. Anyways, this outfit is entirely composed of my new additions and I have to say, I don't really like any of them! But its all office attire, so I don't have much of that in my possession yet.

#13 is Lucky for Italians...I've got nothign about 14.

So I don't know about anyone else who's doing the challenge, but I feel like at the end of this I will never want to wear these pieces again. lol. I don't know... something about looking at them every day... I've sort of started to dislike getting dressed. This is probably because since it was my first time doing a challenge like this I really didn't know any better and picked some of the most BORING pieces in my closet. Good one Mel. Ah well, live and learn. And look at some outfits.

Number 12, a Casual Self

I know... it doen't quite rhyme. I was getting sick of just number titles though, haha.

Going super casual for the weekend but with a hint of my dressy self. My goodness I love these shoes, but they're starting to develop a hole on the inside where my big toe rubs against them... I'm sure it will be time to retire them soon enough, but until then I'm going to sport them constantly.

Saturday night was too much fun. J and I ended up heading to the Lebanese festival, and even though it was kind of raining all night long we had a blast. Why is middle eastern food so good? We had falafel and kibbeh and of course hummus and tabouleh... and who can forget the baclava? Yes, we kind of pigged out... but so worth it!

This shirt was definitely longer when I put this outfit together in my head.... in retrospect, not the greatest ensemble, but hey, we all make mistakes.

TEN

With all the hustle and bustle of leaving the old and getting settled into the new job I totally spaced on taking pictures for a few days... go team me. So there may or may not be a huge gap between dates... whoops! Ah well. I will just have to repeat some of the random outfits I threw on on my in-between days. No biggie.

Worn Fri, July 23rd:

I am incredibly thrilled with my acquisition of this skirt. While the colors are very "Mel", it is probably the busiest pattern I have ever owned and not something I would normally gravitate to. But isn't it preeeettttttty? They had the same skirt in black but I've made a promise to myself to not add anymore of that color to my wardrobe, and I'm quite glad I stuck with something for once or I would have never ended up with this beauty.

Changes to the 30

So I know that this is against the rules, but I figured that since I haven't actually WORN three of the items I'm switching in my capsule, it isn't TOTALLY cheating...
I just didn't want to leave yet another thing in my life incomplete, and about 50% of the items I originally selected are not office appropriate, so I figured by changing four of them I would at least be able to attempt to finish what I started :)

#8 will be changed from the blue tank from smart set to this cowl neck knit one from BCBG (purchased in 2008).

#9 is now this purple shiny button down i received as a gift for xmas, it's Dynamite.

#16, which i HAVE already worn in the challenge (see #6) is staying relatively similar but becoming longer with these dress pants I purchased last week from the Gap.

And finally, #17 is becoming a printed pencil skirt from Dynamite, which was also purchased last week.

As we can tell my shopping ban was a complete fail, haha, but I blame the random switching of jobs for that one. I'm trying again, as of today, for 30 days free of new clothes or shoes. My ban will end August 24th, just in time for me to spoil myself for my birthday on the 27th :) Hopefully I have better luck this time.

And that is that. I hope you all aren't too harsh on my for my wee bit of cheating!

Eight & Nine

I read many blogs every day and most of you are so eloquent I get wild pangs of jealousy. I wish I had the comedic timing of Kendi, or Brooke's depth, or Marie's inexhaustable optimism that rubs off on you by just reading her words... haha, but unfortunately I'm not verbally creative, nor can I show off any crazily artistic skill like Megan, Natasha, or Meghan, so I would like to thank you all for stickin' around and making me feel special :)

Six & Seven

It has definitely been a busy couple of days. I said farewell to Smart Set and my dear new friends. I will definitely miss those girls, but I just didn't fit into the retail equation. Thank goodness for facebook. In a few days I will be starting a new job as an accounts receivable clerk for a large realty company, which I am very excited about. I have no idea what it will really be like, but I look forward to the challenge. So along with this new job will come a new way of dressing, I'm sure. I'm going to try my best to complete my 30 look capsule, but I may have to do some substitution for some more professional looking clothing and get rid of the more casual items, like the abundance of tee shirts I included.

I will definitely keep you up to date on those swaps when they happen, but for now lets go back to some outfits that have already been created.
