The 9-5 Patriot

Red, white, and blue are a patriotic combination that can come off as too casual or juvenile for the work day. One way that I ensure this doesn't happen is by adding another neutral into the mix. For this ensemble, I grounded the colors of July 4 with black through a statement necklace, wide belt, and classic pumps.

No Need for Shoulder Pads

I'm a sucker for blazers (obviously), so finding a unique, vintage one is my ultimate score. I just  ensure that I remove the shoulder pads as I don't need any help in the big shoulders category.

Spring Uniform

It's hard to believe (given the current weather), but couple weeks ago, it was sunny and 60 degrees. Therefore, I broke out what is sure to be my spring uniform - a jean jacket and some combination of cobalt, red/orange, and mint.

Jenny Crew

It's no surprise that I'm obsessed with J.Crew. I mean, what girl isn't?! Although the new arrivals feature more pastel colors than primary, mixing stripes & plaid, wearing men's shirts/sweaters, and doning gems every day can be almost 100% attributed to Jenna Lyons and is therefore, quintessentially J.Crew.

What to Wear this Weekend

Leggings? Baggy sweatshirt? Stocking cap? These are all elements for a lazy weekend spent indoors.
Sequins? Red lipstick? Sparkly brooch? Black rim glasses? Over the knee boots? These are all elements that will elevate those elements off the couch and out for some daytime fun this Saturday.

I, on the other hand, will be wearing this dress and celebrating my entry into the 30s club!

The Perfect Red Dress

After receiving this dress as a Christmas present, I have worn it three times. Once with a flannel underneath and knee high boots (for Christmas Day), once with a crewneck sweater over it and leopard flats (for a 1st birthday party), and like this (for the work day). It's comfortable, versatile, and flattering - a triple threat. I can't wait to see how it with more layers as the temperatures drop.

Varsity Reds

Surprisingly, I was never a football player, but I did have many friends who were during high school (including my now bf). When "Varsity Blues" came out in 1999, my hometown felt a great deal like West Canaan, TX. No, we didn't have Jon Voight as varsity's head coach, our teachers didn't moonlight as strippers, and no one named Billy Bob drove around with a potbelly pig; however, the team did do whatever they wanted (with little consequence) and Friday's in the fall were always spent at McCracken Field, whether you had any connection to a player. I feel like this type of outfit, in our school colors of black & orange, certainly fits the bill for attending a home game. Well, maybe flats instead of stilettos...you know how dangerous traversing that stadium seating can be!

A Little Red Lipstick

I spotted this gorgeous woman on Madison Avenue. Her red lipstick was the perfect contrast to her all black outfit. Many ladies have told me that the secret to adding some glamour to an outfit is to wear a little bit of red lipstick. Do you agree?

Dare To Be Plaid

Here are some outtakes from the photos I took of Tziporah Salamon, in all plaid, for Vogue Japan. Can you believe she actually rides a bicycle in her amazing clothes?

Winter Vamp Bites Again

So his influence for Fall 2010 Givenchy was said to be skiing and scuba, however the dark colours in the collection by Riccardo Tissci, which are predominantly present in the majority of Fall collections were reminiscent not of a bright and cheerful sporting event but rather of a winter bright, yet silent and bare landscape. This impression may be due to the use of black, red and lace. An inevitable association with the employment of black and red in fashion instinctively evokes the vampire. Was he considering the representation of red with blood against the black? Or have I just experienced too much of vampire in common society?

Vampires seem to be present everywhere, whether through fashion, books, music, film, television; an obsession appears to be present. I have sunk my teeth into the books, scrutinized the movies, bought the soundtracks and am cautiously approaching (with stake in hand) the vampire on television.
From the eighteenth century the notion of vampires produced a mass hysteria in Europe and its influence over art and culture developed. This flame has been rekindled today within art and culture and might we perhaps experience another mass hysteria?
Rather than anticipating a mass hysteria of 'what will I wear' now that it's Fall, another type could ensue. This Fall may bring about a mass hysteric dash to the high street to re create the vampire look straight from the catwalks of the fashion capitals.
Time to embrace the pastels and bronze yourself for this season, whilst simultaneously envisaging your inner vamp once the sun sets on summer and the winter begins to bite.
