Turbans and Gold

I met up with Lynn Dell this weekend to shoot a small segment for Norwegian TV. In the process, I couldn't help photographing her amazing outfit. Lynn is one of the most stylish and spirited women I know. At 78, she believes that everyday should be a celebration and that we should dress for the theater of our lives. Check out the video below to hear more about The Countess of Glamour.

Christina in Jeremy Scott For Linda Farrow Sunglasses

Christina is one of the most stylish and creative dressers I know. She told that the older she gets, the less she cares what other people think. This is a great lesson for all of us to learn. If you like her shades you can find them HERE.

"When in Doubt, Leave it Off."
I met Amber near Madison Ave, and asked if I could take her photo. She was dressed perfectly for a hot summer's day, and I knew she would have some great style advice. Amber told me that she follows her mother's old saying," When in doubt, leave it off." Amber thinks about comfort first, because, "You won't feel stylish if you aren't comfortable." This is sound advice from a stylish lady!

Gorgeous Gloves

I love when I ask someone if I can take their photograph and they proudly announce their age.I saw this stunning woman walking up Madison Avenue and after complimenting her gloves, I asked if I could take her photo. She replied, "I'm 86" and said that although she doesn't usually stop for photos on the street that it sounded like a cute idea. I started a page on Advanced Style with photos of other women who aren't afraid to tell their age, CLICK HERE to check it out.

"Sunglasses Are Better Than a Facelift"

I always have a blast with my pal Mary. At 71 years old she knows the secret to fooling mother nature, she says, "Sunglasses are better than a facelift, they hide the ravages of time, and let you spy on people." Mary keeps her style chic and classic, but when it comes to glasses she says,"You can break the rules once in a while, I'm not ready for a convent or anything so I can wear leopard glasses." Check out some more of Mary's many shades below.

A Serendipitous Meeting

Yesterday I was walking around the Upper West Side when I saw this beautiful woman. I asked if I could take her photo and handed her a business card. She took one glance at the card and exclaimed, " Advanced Style, you took my photograph about two years in Battery Park." I love running into people I have photographed before and this was surely serendipitous as I hoped that we would meet again some day. I am so excited to have a new Advanced Style muse to share with everyone. At 82 years old Claire not only has great style, but a wonderful spirit and zest for life.CLICK HERE to check out a great story about Claire and her best friend's in The New York Times and enjoy the video and photos below.

Mimi Weddell: A Model Life

People always ask me about the elegant lady in my header photo. I had the pleasure of meeting this extraordinary woman when I first moved to New York about three years ago. Mimi Weddell was an actress and model who started her career in her late 60s. She appeared in ad campaigns for Nike, Louis Vuitton, and Juicy Couture and appeared in several movies and television programs including "Hitch" and "Sex and The City". Here are some great photos of Mimi shot by photographer Bryant Woodd. Most of theses have never been seen before so I am excited to share them on Advanced Style.
Mimi passed away on my birthday, in 2009 at the age of 94, but her spirit definitely lives on in the wonderful documentary on her life" Hat's Off". Enjoy this clip below:
