Yes, that is my dog at the top of the photo :)
Since Josh and just I returned from our vacation last week, I thought now would be an appropriate time to share what I packed and all the outfits I made out of those clothes. I love reading packing posts on other peoples' blogs, and was actually quite excited to put together my own!
I knew I needed to pack lightweight clothes, since we would be in the desert for six days. I did bring some slightly warmer items - a pair of jeans, a sweater, a cardigan, and a chambray button-up - in case it got cold at night (which it definitely did at the Grand Canyon - down to freezing), and the cardigan especially came in handy for covering up my arms and shoulders when I didn't feel like putting sunblock on them.
Here's my official packing list:
Jeans
Pink shorts
Black and white shorts
Patterned tank top
Black tank top
Floral tank top
Pink blouse
Purple sweater
Gray cardigan
Chambray button-up
Striped dress
Green floral dress
Pink belt
Sun hat
A few pieces of jewelry (2 bracelets, 2 necklaces, 2 pairs of earrings)
Tennis shoes
Brown sandals
Black espadrilles
Blue and green wedges
In retrospect, considering how much hiking we did (a lot), I should have swapped the nicer black and white shorts for a more athletic pair. I could have left both the espadrilles and the wedges at home, since I only wore them once each. (I tend to be really energetic and hike or walk a lot on my vacations, so instead of trying to look fancy, next time I should probably just bring all sensible shoes instead of dressy ones!) And I definitely could have done with more shirts - I sweat a lot (TMI, I know), and it was absurdly hot down there. Other than that, though, I think I did a decent job packing.
Here are my outfits in the order that I wore them. Sometimes I changed multiple times a day due to the heat - that's why there are eight outfits for only six days of travel. (And I didn't include the super boring outfits, like the ones I wore on the flights.)
Worn for: driving from Las Vegas to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, and going on an evening hike along the rim
Worn for: a three-mile hike into the canyon (apart from the tennis shoes, I liked this outfit - but the tennis shoes were, of course, a necessity)
Worn for: an afternoon stroll along the rim at Grand Canyon Village
Worn for: a sunset visit to the Watchtower at Desert View (twenty-five miles east of Grand Canyon Village)
Worn for: driving from the south rim to the north rim, and short hikes along the north rim (I borrowed Josh's hat that day, because my sunhat kept blowing off my head and I didn't want it to blow right into the canyon!)
Worn for: driving through Zion National Park to Las Vegas
Worn for: an evening stroll to the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas
Worn for: a trip up the replica Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas, and some gambling :)
