"Mike Patton" goes to New Zealand

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

First up, a little music news for fans like myself, followed by a silly little photo essay (and just a hint at my upcoming NZ pictures - SO MANY TO GO THROUGH!):

*The wait is over! Patton's "pop" music collaboration Peeping Tom is FINALLY coming out with another album....in 2011. Yeah, it's a long ways off, but I'm just happy to hear it wasn't just a one-time deal. I'm often reminded about how much I suck for missing PT when he (it, they, whatever) came to Vancouver in 2007 but hopefully I'll catch him (they, whatever) when he tours with the second album. Unreal!

*Speaking of Peeping Tom, famed beatboxer Rahzel, who was on Mojo, will be having his own solo project released on Ipecac in 2010. Patton will surely be guesting on that.

*Also in 2010? Look for Mondo Cane, that Italian opera orchestra big band deal that Patton is helming - that album is sure to be groundbreaking. Exciting stuff!

You can read this interview with Patton's Ipecac partner, Greg Werckman, here. Lots of tidbits on all this Josh Homme too!!

Now if only we could have some updates on Crudo and maybe some more Tomahawk? I almost love Tomahawk as much as FNM...maybe 5% less, haha. I find it to be excellent writing and driving music and if you're really feeling experimental, try Anonymous. My favourite thing to listen to these days.

Speaking of FNM, they ARE coming to New Zealand in February, as was evidenced by all the posters around Auckland and Christchurch. I even managed to score a free one from Real Groovy records by bribing not one, but TWO, employers. I just flashed some skin - finally my feminine charms come in handy (haha just kidding).

But even though I won't be in NZ at that time, that doesn't mean I didn't take Mike Patton around New Zealand with me....

You know how some people travel with little garden gnomes or plastic fish and place them in all their pictures? Well, I took my little Tomahawk Mike and off we went!

He even showed up for Kelly's wedding in Auckland (again, cleavage was the best place)

Where he was almost chucked away (weddings bring out the worst in people)

Evidently I did find him in the trash can after the wedding was over...had a feeling that my own Mike had something to do with it - a man can only have so much patience ;)

PS: FAITH NO MORE TO PLAY COACHELLA FESTIVAL IN APRIL?

That's what people are talking about on the Coachella forums (thanks Bobbie, for the tip!)

If that's the case, I totally called it. OK, I didn't, but I did blog about it two months ago (thanks to a clever fellow's deduction) and I would really, really, really love it if it were correct.

Plus with the possibility of Muse and Smashing Pumpkins also playing? Well I think my mind MIGHT explode. How bout you throw in Led Zeppelin and then I don't have to see any concert ever again haha.
