Coddington The Hero

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Fashion hot mess’s favourite unlikely hero of 2009 is without a doubt Grace Coddington following the release of the Vogue documentary “The September Issue” in September 2009. The documentary followed the legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her team in the making of the 2007 September issue of American Vogue which was to date the magazines biggest publication with a weight of over four pounds and a $300 billion impact on the worldwide fashion industry.

The documentary was due to centre around Wintour and melt the ice maiden reputation with which she has been labeled. An unlikely hero emerged when the film was released and was well documented online and elsewhere. Grace Coddington, the creative director at American Vogue once model and junior editor at British Vogue, emerged as the loveable character and unlikely hero – the role which Wintour so desired. Ironically Coddington initially declined to be filmed in “The September Issue” and relented only at the request of Wintour.

“At the eye of this annual fashion hurricane is the two-decade relationship between Wintour and Grace Coddington, incomparable Creative Director and fashion genius. They are perfectly matched for the age old conflict between creator and curator. Through them we see close-up the delicate creative chemistry it takes to remain at the top of the ever-changing fashion field.”
Grace Coddington indisputably triumphs as the victor of the unlikely hero in 2010 in the eyes of fashion hot mess. An individual who can stand up to a woman who is renowned as one of the most “scary” in the industry is one who will immediately deserve respect.

On no account to criticize the genius that Wintour possess and channels into the fashion world, but Grace Coddington is unquestionably the hero for fashion hot mess in 2009.
