Carole has appeared on Advanced Style several times,in her hand knit sweaters and amazing make up. She always has the most fantastic accessories, like these lovely Prada earrings that she purchased at the airport in Rome.

Style Is Healing

One of the great things about getting older, is gaining the confidence and  freedom to dress how you want. Debra Rapoport is a great example of a woman who isn't afraid to express herself. One of best lessons I have learned from the ladies I photograph is to dress for myself, rather than trying to impress others. There is a freedom that accompanies not having to worry about impressing other people. Here's a style tip from a young man with an old soul, Dress to Impress Yourself! Advanced Style Around The World

The other day Advanced Style was featured in one of Vienna's largest newspapers derStandard. My photos, including a great cover shot of the Idiosyncratic Fashionistas are displayed throughout the issue . Jean, Valerie, Lina and I got together for brunch to catch up and look at their wonderful faces on the newspaper cover. Its great to see older ladies with great style getting the attention they deserve.

On another note Valerie broke her right wrist, but she doesn't let that stop her from looking as stylish as always. In the video below she shows how you can even add some style to your cast, proving that style really can be healing. The Idiosyncratic Fashionistas

Over the last two years I have learned so much about life and style from the wonderful people I have met and photographed for Advanced Style.They have taught me that it is important to embrace life's up and downs, continue to learn and challenge myself,and take the opportunities that come my way. Above are some of my my favorite quotes from some of these fabulous women.

Winter Blues

I was delighted to see this gentleman just I stopped off the Subway platform at Roosevelt Island. I photographed him last September, in a similarly colorful orange suit. He told me, " The young men, don't do what I do" and that he dresses up everyday and matches everything down to his socks and shoes. He has been doing this for over 35 years and has been featured in Esquire magazine. I took a small video of him above, and even though it is hard to hear what he is saying, you can sense the joy he takes in dressing from his great smile and charm.

Welcome to Advanced Style

Hi,

My name is Ari Cohen and this is my very first Blog. I hope to use this as a forum to document the inspirational street fashion of our respected elders. I have always looked to street fashion for inspiration and since moving to New York four months ago I noticed how awesome so many of New York's older men and women styled. My main goal is to capture examples of "Advanced Style" from the sophisticated and well dressed to the accidentally stylish and colorful folks out on the town.
